N'shaytkin
(2019-2020)

David McIntosh

N’shaytkin means a relation that has passed on, or those that came before us, in Nłeʔkepmxcin – the language of the Nlaka’pamux First Nations. It is also the name of new novella by Chris Bose that looks at the failure of a mine tailings dam from five perspectives. Written by Chris Bose, drawn by Chris and Jayda Bose, edited by David McIntosh with dramaturgy by DD Kugler, battery opera books published N’shaytkin in December of 2019. For more info about the book, or to purchase one, visit battery opera books, here.

The N’shaytkin book launch from December 18th – 22nd, 2019, featured performances at grunt gallery, boombox, Massey books, and the Anvil Centre. Performers included Chris Bose, Zahra Shahab, Ali Denham, Maxine Chadburn, Alec Edward von Henzke, and Christopher Langer. Visual artists Kay Gallivan, and Alex Taylor-McCallum responded to Chris's performances of traditional stories with works at boombox.
